Fang Di graduated from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2010, and got an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013. He currently works in Shenzhen, China, and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. His works convey not only the evolution of urbanization, but also his personal attitude. He is interested in social practice, and he often seeks his identity and put himself into the creative process. His works use multiple artistic vocabularies to investigate the entanglement in city life, and reflect on the rapid and chaotic changes involved in today’s society.
There is a back story of the origin of Chine Yishu8 Prix, where in 1920 when Cai Yuanpei founded the Chinois-Franco University in Beijing. In the end of last century, this reformed and innovative university welcomed Chang Shuhong, Lin Fengmian and many other outstanding young people who did preparatory studies here and later went to Lyon, France for further studies. Today, as a charitable award with strict standards, Chine Yishu8 Prix gathers renowned artists, art educators and art critics together as nominees and judges, and carries on the mission of promoting artistic dialogue between China and France.
