Vanguard Gallery is pleased to announce that artist Ho Rui An will participate in the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2026, organized by the Diriyah Biennale Foundation, presenting his work A Petropolis in a Garden with a Long View. The Biennale will open on 30 January 2026 in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
The 2026 edition is led by artistic directors Nora Razian and Sabih Ahmed, and is titled In Interludes and Transitions (في الحِلّ والترحال). The exhibition explores states of movement, migration, and transition within contemporary global structures. Featuring more than 20 newly commissioned works and bringing together over 65 artists from around the world, the Biennale provides an important international platform. Ho Rui An’s participation further underscores his ongoing critical engagement with image-making, power, and geopolitics within a global contemporary art context.
In Interludes and Transitions
The title of the Biennale draws from a colloquial phrase invoking the cycles of encampments and journeys in nomadic communities in the Arabian Peninsula, taking as a point of departure the movements, migrations, and transformations that continue to connect the Gulf region with the world.
With scenography by design studio Formafantasma, the Biennale is conceived as a choreography in which histories, ancestors, dreams, and premonitions move together through song, stories, dance, and whirlwinds. The Biennale presents works by artists, musicians, filmmakers, architects, and writers to amplify continuity and resilience in times of uncertainty. Over 20 new works have been commissioned for the Biennale.
